“Tuesday August 29th, the day the running stopped.”
53 years ago on this date in 1967, ABC Network broadcast the series finale of The Fugitive starring David Janssen. It was the highest-rated telecast in the history of television. A record which stood unchallenged until the “Who Shot J.R.” episode of Dallas aired in 1980.
Interesting side note: The final episode of this series was broadcast in Canada on a different date, September 5 as opposed to the August 29 airdate in the U.S.
For Canadian prints of the final episode, William Conrad’s ending narration was modified to state “September 5th, the day the running stopped”.
Tuesday August 29th, the day the running stopped.
